The Election Day EP is Avit’s debut EP, produced by Kuvie. “I never expected to get into music, although I have known from a young age that I had the ability to sing quite well.” Avit broke out of his shell in high school, when he joined the choir and band, singing lead and soon writing his own songs – albeit without any intention of releasing them.

All this changed one day when he, his cousin and a friend visited his big brother, who had a studio at home. “He played a beat, I did a hook and a verse, and my cousin who manages me said: AV, we cannot sit on this. Decision made.”

Election Day centers around the empowerment of Africans, encouraging people to strive to be the best version of themselves. It also deals with topics such as elections and having the right mindset to approach them, to ensure proper, long-term benefits.

“I’m prioritizing the African continent, mainly because of the message and its relevance to the regular African’s story.” Produced entirely by Kuvie, the EP also features talented singer Asi on Come Closer, a song which adds a fun twist to the project.

Avit touches on different genres, incorporating party beats, chill vibes, and reggae/dancehall. “The intention is to have a cocktail of assorted music, with live performances as the main vehicle for delivering my music and cultivating a resilient fanbase within Ghana and abroad.”

Inspired by real-life events, Avit uses music to vent or express his views. For instance, Why Hate Me is inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. “Once there is a pressing topic at hand, I try to express it in my music.”

Max Le Daron
Azizaa Mystic
Joey Le Soldat

Before it became a song, Freedom was a spiritual energy split across continents. In 2014 Max spent some time recording Ewe ceremonies in Ghana’s Volta region: while he came specifically to record rhythms, Max left with his soul irreversibly connected to the spirits and energy called upon during the ceremonies.

When he returned to Belgium, Max shared the sounds with Gan Gah, a producer who grew up in Agadir in southern Morocco, surrounded by Gnawa culture and music. Gan Gah immediately felt the connection between Ewe and Gnawa music, which traces its rhythmic and spiritual roots to West Africa. Gan Gah worked hand in hand with Max to incorporate the complex and shared polyrhythms into Freedom’s beat.

The next logical step was to ask Azizaa to drop her unmistakably voodoo-charged vocals on the track. The Black Magic Woman is also a child of the Ewe people, and has made a musical mark with her deep-rooted spirituality, which clashes head-on with much of modern-day Ghana’s monotheist façade.

To top it all off, Joey le Soldat storms into the song with the steaming fury of the burkinabè people. His vociferous verse attacks the fanatical prophets deceiving and manipulating the people.

Freedom is hence more of a spiritual reunion than collaboration, the binding of energies split across centuries and continents, in a unified call for spiritual freedom.

Allo Momymo is Diane Dddd’s first official release, after a string of audiomack and soundcloud projects which have earned her a solid reputation in Abidjan’s buzzing underground. Diane is also one of very few female artists emerging from this new urban ivorian scene.

On Allo Momymo, produced by A2B, Diane showcases a more melodic side of her craft: “Allo Momymo is a trap song, where I aim to switch up my singing rap with a different flow.” Diane believes that relying on Côte d’Ivoire’s musical specificities is what can lift Ivorian artists, rather than sticking to purely Western melodies and structures.

Her changing flow also reflects her shifting states of mind. “MomyMo (Mommy Mo) is an allegory for the person you can confide in and share your secret garden.”
