Joochar

With Baby Baby, Diane Dddd proves she is a versatile, explorative, growing talent to be reckoned with. The song features Joochar, member of Kiff No Beat, arguably Côte d’Ivoire’s most influential hip hop supergroup, a connection facilitated by Monda head honcho and La Sunday resident Jeune Lio.

The pair is sure to surprise their fans, as the song shifts significantly from their usual hip hop-focused sound. Baby Baby is a love song, appropriately sung on top of a zouk beat, which ends with a captivating kompa guitar.

Diane Dddd already gave us a taste of her versatility on her “Juste Un Dimanche” debut EP, which came out February 14 this year, and already fused afro elements to her habitual hip hop sound. Baby Baby takes it a step further, showcasing how fast the next generation of ivorian artists are evolving.

Ozaki – La Bassamoise

Ozaki – La Bassamoise

Ozaki hails from Grand Bassam, a coastal UNESCO world heritage site just east of Abidjan. Today the town is mostly known for its palm-studded beaches, but it’s also home turf for Ozaki and Le Côté Sud, his collective of rappers, beatmakers, video directors, photographers, painters and more.

Part of a new generation of Ivorian artists inspired by global trap legends, Ozaki’s words are firmly rooted in Bassam and Abidjan’s bustling culture, and this EP is yet another milestone pushing the envelope of the local Ivorian rap scene. La Bassamoise (inhabitant of Bassam) is set to put Ozaki’s hometown on the map. The three tracks on the EP follow a logical progression, and give us a taste of the full length album in the making, also under the guidance of Monda‘s Jeune Lio.

Juste Un Dimanche – just another sunday, is Diane Dddd’s Valentine’s gift to her single fans. “For singles, Valentine’s day this year is just another sunday.” Most songs on the project talk about love, “not always the happy, pink side of love. Love for each other, love for what we do.”

“For my single fans, since it’s just a regular sunday, I hope my music keeps them company until they can find someone.” The EP features Diane’s second collaboration with Chany Z, rap ivories heavy hitter Media Fuego – “he doesn’t need to be introduced, he’s a monster!”, and long time friend Paulem.

“People know me for my R&B and trap sound, but on this EP I am shifting to more dancehall and afro beats – I listen to that all the time. I want my fans to get used to hearing me on these sounds, I intend to go deeper into it in the future. I hope people love this project, because I want to aim higher with it. I’ve been lacking visuals, I think the timing is right now. Rely on my fans, and aim high.”

Asi is a powerful voice that has made serious waves in 2020 in Accra, performing along some of the city’s most forward thinking artists, upon her return to Ghana after a few years blessing stages in East Africa.

“I’ve always been at peace and felt complete when singing and making music, that alone is a motivator. My songs are inspired by life and its journey, what I experience and what I observe people experience. I put a conscious effort to make sure my music empowers, gives hope, enlightens and most importantly gives positive energy.”

One Chance introduces Asi’s collaboration with lifestyle and fashion brand Sekbi Bogolan. “I connected so much with the essence of Sekbi Bogolan, this is what led to the collaboration in the first place. Their values, mission and vision being aligned with mine, it naturally resulted in a great partnership leading to an inspiring creative journey. The goal was to inspire and empower people from all over through various art forms. With our video, One Chance, the audience will experience a unique three dimensional artistic vision: music, fashion and dance.”

“ All the songs were inspired by what Sekbi Bogolan stands for: a new way of  approaching the African narrative that evolves between heritage and modernity, and lastly, celebrating diversity. In simple words, the SEKBI spirit and mine were aligned.”
