Radio Afrodicia (KPFK) Interview

Radio Afrodicia (KPFK) Interview

Last week I was invited by a long time supporter of Akwaaba, Nnamdi Moweta, host of the weekly Radio Afrodicia show on KPFK in Los Angeles. This interview is a good roundup of the different music trends and developments I’ve witnessed this past year throughout Africa, in particular in Ghana, where I live, and Angola, where I just traveled to. A few of the cuts we played are from the Lungu Lungu column I write for Fader mag, which is paired with a great playlist of all free tunes you can download here.

3740037836_6625c04a23

Last week, Benjamin Lebrave connected with DJ Rupture for his weekly show on New York’s WFMU. If you don’t know about Rupture… well, now’s a good time to learn more about the hyper active producer / journalist. The two had connected last fall in Tilburg for Generation BassIncubate event. Fast forward a few months, and there was still plenty to share about what we’ve been up to, and what we’re cooking up with our imminent move to Accra, Ghana. Listen below, and/or subscribe to the podcast to download the full show.

nnamdi
Nnamdi Moweta, host of KPFK‘s Afrodicia, invites Akwaaba yet again to share some of the sounds and stories we gathered on our recent trip to Ghana and Togo. Baba Salah, Pentatonic Songhai goodness – in French!

ImprimirOur friend Toni Polo of Radio Groovalizacion has spent the last few months in Bamako, digging deep into the rich musical traditions of Mali. He recently interviewed Baba Salah, a musician we featured on our first compilation Akwaaba wo Africa, and more importantly one of Mali’s most celebrated artist – yet a relatively unknown musician outside of Mali! Check back for some more Baba Salah music very soon, and in the meantime let yourself sink into the sounds of Baba… the interview is in French, but you can enjoy plenty of fine music on this great show.

Here’s a repost of a great video interview Toni did with Alou Sangaré:

12/26 LA: Akwaaba @ KPFK 90.7 FM

Sinden w/ Haaksman on Kiss FM, plays Killamu

We recently got in touch with Graeme Sinden, DJ and host on London’s Kiss FM, who just did a show with Daniel Haaksman of Man Recordings. The show featured a lot of Man’s new stuff, in particular the Ku-Bo EP stuff (Ku-Bo is none other than Stefan Mörth, aka Stereotyp). But ALSO, and this is where you might start to feel your ears tickle, some tracks off of Killamu‘s album A Minha Face, which drops right here on Akwaaba January 12. Now luckily, the Dirty Friends blog posted the entire show, which you can download there or directly here.
