Fascinating Afropop special

Read Wayne Marshall’s interview here. Wayne is the Wayne & Wax guy. If you don’t know his blog, well, since you’re here you’d probably dig his site, an always insightful blog on new music trends with a foot – or two – in cross-Atlantic syncopated beats. Ghetto tech, tropical bass, you might’ve heard the expressions, Wayne deciphers a lot of it on his blog. As does our good ol’buddy Boima, you’ve seen his name pop up here quite a bit, ya?

Daniel Haaksman feat. MC Miltinho “Kid Conga”

Daniel Haaksman is a Berlin based DJ with eclectic taste, particularly in baile funk (which can best be described as Brazilian party music). “Kid Conga,” from Haaksman’s Gostoso EP (released this summer on his label, Man Recordings), features 9 year old MC Miltinho (son of baile funk legend MC Batata) singing a Bazillion nursery rhyme over baile funk influenced tropical dance beats.

On a scale of 1-10, it’s freaking awesome.

10/26 SE: Akwaaba in Dagens Nyheter

Practice your Swedish… and help us figure out what the article says! Anna and Sebastian of Stockholm’s High Life party introduced us to Nanushka Yeaman, a – very friendly – Swedish-American journalist who does culture columns for Dagens Nyheter, the largest Swedish daily. Today, this culture is dedicated to Akwaaba and our mission to spread music and cultures from Africa. Dig it!

This just in: thanks to our Swedish fans for the translation in the comments below.
