Weird Space is about mental health and coping mechanisms. It’s about isolation, anxiety, depression, numbness, coping and finally inclusion, being there for someone even though you experience same .

I wrote this while caught in what felt like an endless loop of numbness, partly triggered by lockdowns. I’m stuck in a weird space, vibrations off base, some shit you can’t change. Trying to connect my energy. A way for me to create some sort of awareness and my continued journey on putting a part of myself in my music.

I wrote Weird Space exactly a year ago, the first set of melodies that came to me after a long phase of numbness. I was dealing with losing one of the longest relationships I’ve ever had, locked down, my 9-5 on autopilot. The numbness was so loud it was the only thing I could listen to. I drove in silence, walked in silence. I took to editing videos and exhausted its thrill. Depression, anxiety, PTSD kicked in. I walked with my fists clenched. My own clothes spooked me. I pretty much talk about a space I’ve found myself in countless times and how I cope just like many of us have. I actually detached from this song a few months after I wrote it.

After months of this space I came across the song City Girl by Ari Pensmith & Jonah Christian, off a soulection playlist on apple music. It was the only thing I had connected to in months. I wrote the hook to Weird Space to that song and NiiQuaye made this badass beat!
