Buzz Meets Biz – third and final stop: Accra – COMING SOON!

Music is our business…

Throughout the months of October and November this year, the international workshop program “Buzz Meets Biz” is taking place in Germany, Spain, and Ghana, bringing together young music professionals from the mentioned nations plus the UK. Not only active artists but also promoters, bloggers, label owners, and other professionals in the musical field are involved, covering all kinds of modern genres. Through networking, sharing knowledge and experiences, and participating in educative workshops, these young creatives will be inspired and taught to take confident and smart steps in the tough world of show biz.

PART 3 – ACCRA, GHANA

November 18 – 30, 2017

The third and last part of the mobility program will take place here in Accra. Complementing the two past workshop series on the economic issues of music, this session will focus on music itself. Creativity process, production, performance and an insight into the Ghanaian music scene will all contribute to the grand finale of this international project.

The mobility program is organized in cooperation of Akwaaba Music, Music Pool Berlin, iRights, Fundación SGAE, Cooperación Española, Goethe-Institut and the Alliance Française Accra. The programme is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and Goethe-Institut Ghana.

Pen & Paper Album Launched Live in Concert

Ko-Jo Cue and Lil’Shaker filled the venue at Alliance Francaise this past Saturday, 21st of October. The release concert of their new joint album Pen&Paper drew a huge and hyped crowd, occupying the open air theater to the last seat and rail.

Backed by a heated battle of DJ Lord of Live FM and DJ Putin and illustrated by live graffiti art, the two rappers of BBnZ Live performed a solid show and cleverly combined their new releases with an impressive selection of Ghana’s hiphop squad.

Magnom, Gemini, Dopenation, B4Bonah, Kwesi Arthur and many more surprise acts supported Pen&Paper at this great night of Ghanaian rap.

SURAJ – Tribute To The East Exclusive Mix

I finally made it to Nairobi last August, and among many other eye openers, I was blown away when I realized afrohouse is already a pillar of Nairobi’s nightlife. The Angolan and Mozambican scenes have inundated Soundcloud with countless bangers, not to mention South Africa, which is by most standards the global epicenter of house music. I was less aware of Nairobi’s house music output, but was very impressed by the quality of the DJs. One DJ who stood out in particular is SURAJ: this guy took me on a musical journey for the first time in way too long. I witnessed SURAJ behind the decks on several occasions, and truly appreciated his range, cleverly adapting his style to the time and venue without ever letting go of his distinct personality.

Fiending for more, I asked SURAJ to prepare an exclusive mix for us, which he describes this way:

“This mix for Akwaaba gives me the opportunity to create a set that reflects a night out in Nairobi and the music that comes along with it. I am a DJ and producer based in Nairobi, Kenya, I create contemporary electronic music infused with traditional musical and cultural elements. In this mix, I highlight my signature sound alongside new music from some of my favorite labels and artists from around the world. 12/17 DE: Akwaaba night at Surprise Club in Berlin

Now THIS here is an exciting event… lately, Akwaaba’s so-called “Label Boss” (what a dubious expression!!) aka BBRAVE has been rocking more tropical / electro- oriented dancefloors. Now he is invited to make some noise at Surprise, Berlin’s most notorious African club. So expect a heavy set of straight up African jams, from Naija to Soukous to – of course – plenty of hiplife, coupé décalé, and hopefully enough kuduro to make the (Angolan) owner jump!!! First, our homies from Nairobi and Amsterdam, This Is Africa, who are bringing some TIA goodies to the table… and speaking of goodies, we recently discovered Mbóte, which makes delicious ready-made specialties from the Kongo terroir… yum yum yum from here to there and back.
