Flowking Stone & Kirani Ayat get VGMA nominations.

Madina-based hip hop sensation, Kirani Ayat’s song Guda has been nominated for Best Video of the Year in this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Although, there are equally good videos in this category , the fact that Ayat’s video features rich Ghanaian Northern Culture is a plus that should catapult him to win the award.

On the other hand, Ghanaian rapper, Flowking Stone’s song Blow My Mind featured on his album Gifted II has also been nominated for Hiplife Song of the year. We expected more nominations for Stone unfortunately we got only one and hope to win it.

Music is our business…

Throughout the months of October and November this year, the international workshop program “Buzz Meets Biz” is taking place in Germany, Spain, and Ghana, bringing together young music professionals from the mentioned nations plus the UK. Not only active artists but also promoters, bloggers, label owners, and other professionals in the musical field are involved, covering all kinds of modern genres. Through networking, sharing knowledge and experiences, and participating in educative workshops, these young creatives will be inspired and taught to take confident and smart steps in the tough world of show biz.

PART 3 – ACCRA, GHANA

The third and last part of the mobility program will take place here in Accra. Complementing the two past workshop series on the economic issues of music, this session will focus on music itself. Kirani Ayat’s MadFest 2018 Festival

Kirani Ayat’s MadFest 2018 Festival

Very few artists manage to stay true to their musical color, flirt with mainstream music and maintain strong underground support. Very few artists aspire – and manage – to lift an entire community. Kirani AYAT manages all of it. His name is associated with many of Ghana’s top artists, through features and collaborations with the likes of Sarkodie, Manifest, E.L or Medikal. But Ayat is also a name Accra’s underground looks up to, landing him headliner slots at many indie events such as Yoyo Tinz, Chale Wote or Asa Baako. And all this while, Ayat can be considered the musical ambassador, if not king, of his home turf Madina.

Madina is an area of Accra so vast and so significant for waves of immigrants that it is known even in the most remote villages of Northern Ghana. Madina is also home to Ayat’s MadFest, an event showcasing the best of many worlds, where top artists play alongside rising neighborhood talent, to a crowd of thousands of local fans.

“I started MadFest with the goal of establishing a legacy, like a Ghanaian Coachella meets Nyege Nyege. To achieve that, it’s important that we stay true to the concept: Music of African Descent, MAD, showcasing headliners and up and coming talent, representing Madina and aiming for the world.”

Kirani AYAT is the perfect figure to carry such an ambitious project.“I can play in both worlds without compromising my sound. I play along mainstream artists, and I’m featured on all the alternative shows. I’ve probably been featured on more underground artists’ songs than anyone in Ghana.”

Now in its fourth year, MadFest continues to raise the bar, with confirmed appearances by Akan, one of the most promising twi rapper of his generation, Kofi Mole, Quamina MP, Haywaya, Magnom, Yung Pabi, Bryan the Mensah, AI, and of course Kirani AYAT himself, together reaching a collective fanbase of over 280,000 followers.

Ghanaian hip hop and highlife at its best: Flowking Stone “Blow My Mind” feat. Akwaboah

Ghanaian hip hop and highlife at its best: Flowking Stone “Blow My Mind” feat. Akwaboah

Flowking Stone has been consistently rated one of Ghana’s best rappers. He’s also an artist for whom connecting to Ghana’s deep musical roots is key. “I like to fuse tradition and culture. So even on a westernized hip hop beat, you will hear traditional patterns in my rap.” he tells me.

Not only does Stone spice up his raps with bits of Ghanaian culture, he also flows over a wide range of beats, and is not one to shy away from highlife, as his latest song shows perfectly well. Featuring highlife crooner Akwaboah’s silky voice, shot on the shores of KokrobiteBlow My Mind is a beautiful highlife joint right in time for Ghana’s event filled month of December.

Lala Shishi :DJ Jimmy Jatt Ft. Olamide & Reminisce – Small Girl Big God

Small Girl Big God as it sounds literally means ” A small girl with a big God who does wonderful things for Her” DJ Jimmy Jatt one of the biggest Djs in Nigeria, teams up with Olamide and Reminisce to deliver this dope afrobeats song. The song title is a trending term on social media hence its feature on Lala Shishi

Small Girl Big God is a social media term used to describe ” Boss Chicks”. Boss chicks are women who got their own. They are rich and always showoff on social media, even-though what they’re into isn’t really known, they usually present themselves as entrepreneurs.

In this song, Olamide talks about women who have sugar daddies to sponsor their lifestyles. They have rich men who are mostly old, who give them money, buy cars and houses. As the chorus goes ” Sare wagba, wagba dollar, sare wagba, ko wa gba pounds ” meaning ” Run here to collect-run here to collect , Come collect dollar-Come collect pounds . Basically, he is saying the girl moves from one man to another just to collect money.

Whiles we dance to this song we must as well enjoy the beautiful story behind it..
