We’ve been eying Secousse for a while now… Radioclit, Vamanos, AJ Holmes and always dope guests, first friday of every month. The lineup for this one is still TBD, but in the meantime check the myspace for Secousse or the Notting Hill Arts Club’s site
Here we go, the remix contest was not only a success, in that a ton of remixes were submitted but the quality of the remixes were amazing. Unable to pick just one winner here are the Top 6 and they span across the globe. Bonde do Zombinhos (Aguascalientes, Mexico), Chief Boima (Oakland, California), Chancha Vía Circuito (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Voltergeist (Ayrshire, Scotland), Sabbo (Tel Aviv, Israel), and Perfect Loosers (Paris, France) Akwaaba are even planning to release the winners as a Remix EP, so look out for that soon. Congrats to all that entered.
We first heard of Stockholm’s High Life party last summer when our good friend headed to Sweden to rock the decks there. Summer’s gone, leafs are turning yellow and red, but the highlife heat is still rumbling under the surface… so get ready Stockholm! This is a Sunday gig, so expect more old school, mellow sounds from BBRAVE, Congolese rumba, highlife and juju at the core, with tidbits of zouk, Brazilian funk and more interspersed in there… oh and Anna and Seb sound like really nice people – with fantastic taste, so tell your Swedish friends to hop by!
In honor of all the maquis, chop bars and other bass pounding watering holes encountered on his journeys to Africa, BBRAVE compresses it all into one pungent hour of sweaty music, hiplife, coupé décalé, semba, kuduro and stuff we’re not sure how to classify… see for yourself:
