ABK took me to Hush Hush today, one of Accra’s most famous recording studios. There I met King Sirus, an in-demand arranger for numerous hiplife artists. My head is still spinning from all the artists I met and tracks I heard… Some of the highlights include Sherifa Gunu, Nana Quame, Dogo and Rabbi. Most of the artists I met were stoked about a new potential outlet to spread their music. All of them are somewhat renowned here in Ghana, but have yet to push beyond the national border. But their sound is infectious, the arrangements are very modern and stripped down, yet the chords and melodies still retain much of their beautiful tradition.
